Today we will visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. At the heart of the Trust’s conservation activities is the Orphans’ Project, which has achieved world-wide acclaim through its hugely successful rescue and rehabilitation program. You will find this visit very heart-warming and will have the chance to get up close and personal with baby elephants and rhino and may even choose to adopt one. Accommodation: Karen Camp

Today is a reasonably long, but interesting, drive into The Masai Mara. As we get closer to the park you will see clouds of dust as herds of goats & cows wander the vast plains dutifully followed by their Masai owners. Once in the Mara you will get your first views of wildlife as we game drive through to our Camp. Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Springs Tented Camp

We spend the day game driving around the Park. You will not be disappointed with the wildlife in the Masai Mara! Vast herds of Zebra, Wildebeest and Antelope and home to The Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo & rhino). The Masai Mara is quite simply, one of the greatest wildlife attractions in the world and at this time of year we should see the migration which is spectacular. We’ll have lunch by the Mara River and free time to wander about for photo opportunities of whatever animals might be around the river at the time. In the afternoon we will visit a Masai village to meet the local tribespeople and learn about their age-old customs and the way they live their semi-nomadic lifestyle. Early this afternoon we will arrive at Lake Naivasha. After a late lunch we take a boat ride on the lake viewing hippos, fish eagles and other birdlife before arriving at Elsamere, the former home of the late Joy & George Adamson. Joy became world famous for her pioneering conservation work and relationship with the lioness Elsa, as told in her best-selling book and subsequent film, “Born Free”. After a video presentation on the life of the Adamsons, we’ll spend some time relaxing over a delicious afternoon tea in the gardens which are set within an Acacia forest on the banks of Lake Naivasha. Today we drive through Nyeri, and the Aberdare’s stopping enroute at a lookout over the Great Rift Valley. We’ll stop in the town of Nakuru for supplies – this is a good place for souvenir and handicraft shopping. A short drive brings us to our camp within a farm with beautiful gardens and excellent facilities. You can spend the afternoon going on a farm walk and/or visit the Kenana knitters project. This morning we enter Nakuru National Park where we spend the day on a game drive. This small park is packed with wildlife. The soda lake has over 400 species of birdlife, including thousands of pink flamingos – an ornithologist’s paradise. It is also home to both the black and white rhino, and where many of the scenes from the movie “Out of Africa” were filmed. Accommodation: Kembu Farm

Today is a very picturesque drive up the Eldama Ravine to the crisp temperatures of the Kenyan Highlands. Our accommodation is a laid-back resort with a pool, shady gardens, great restaurant and a very vibrant bar with unique furnishings. Accommodation: Naiberi River Camp (AE dorm). After breakfast, we cross in to Uganda and drive through to Jinja where we will spend the night on the shores of the Nile River, close to the source of the Nile. Relax in the bar overlooking the Nile with its banks covered in luxuriant vegetation and the diversity of bird life attracted by the multitude of fish a stunning vista. Accommodation: Nile Porch

A short drive brings us to colorful, chaotic Kampala, Uganda’s capital. Enroute we will stop at a large shopping centre for lunch and an opportunity to stock up on any personal supplies. This evening you have the opportunity to dine out in one of the many restaurants on offer in the city – you might like to stay on to experience Kampala’s legendary nightlife. Leaving Kampala in the morning, we drive west to Fort Portal. This laidback un-touristy town is located in the heartland of lush tea growing plantations. Accommodation: Mountains of the Moon Hotel

The Kibale Forest is 766 sq km and largely comprises of rainforest where 60 mammal and 335 bird species reside, as well as many different insects and plants. There are 13 primate species, of which the chimpanzees are a star attraction. Today you will be driven deep in to the forest to meet your guides who will escort you through the park to look for these fascinating primates in their natural habitat. Sometimes high up in trees, sometimes on the ground playing around – wherever you find a chimpanzee community – you will be left in awe of their strong family ties and their amazing agility. Today we’ll cross the Equator on our way to Queen Elizabeth NP. This National Park is home to 95 species of mammals and is very scenic with a diverse habitat and two lakes connected by the Kazinga channel. We arrive in time for a picnic lunch before taking a boat cruise on The Kazinga Channel. You will be amazed at the thousands of hippo living here, along with the abundant wildlife on the banks of the river. Late this afternoon we will check in to our accommodation at Mweya Lodge. This luxury lodge is perched on top of a peninsula overlooking the channel and Lakes George & Edward. Later we’ll meet for sundowners in the bar followed by dinner. Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge

Today’s drive is particularly picturesque through lush banana and tea plantations. Early afternoon we reach the colorful town of Kabale and stop for supplies, before driving on to Lake Bunyonyi. The Lake is reputed to be one of the deepest in Africa and is fantastic for swimming in. The surrounding hills are the home of the Bakiga people who are cultivators by tradition. Gorilla Tracking day! We will be picked up early this morning and taken to the Bwindi Impenetrable rain forest park entrance. From here you will be split into groups of 8 with a guide & park rangers and begin your trek in to see the awesome mountain gorillas. Expect to trek between 1 to 5 hours through thick forest with overhanging vines, moss covered trees and giant lobelias that thrive in the tropical climate. Depending on where the gorillas are, you may have to go off track and climb steeply through thick bush. After all the effort of your climb, your heart will be in your throat when you finally come across a family of gorillas. There are around 700 gorillas left in the world and nothing could be more of a privilege than to spend an hour watching them as they go about their daily routine of feeding, playing, cleaning and resting in their own territory. Day at leisure. There are plenty of options to fill in your day perhaps do a guided walk, visit an orphanage, hire a dugout canoe, take a boat ride across to a nearby boarding school, or just relax at the lake. Accommodation: Bunyonyi Overland Resort

Sit back and relax as we spend the day driving through a variety of scenery back to Kampala for the last night of a memorable safari. Accommodation: Hotel Africana

Today you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your home bound flight. End of tour

After early morning breakfast, we shall transfer to Lake Mburo National Park birding en-route. Dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge.

We shall take an early morning boat ride in search of African Finfoot and other water birds. Our highlight will be Red-faced Barbet whose range is almost restricted to a small area in South of Uganda and East of Rwanda. Other species that shall be spotted along the Lake side include Spot-flanked, and Black–collared Barbet, Blue-napped moosebird, White-winged Warbler, Southern Ground Hornbill, Papyrus Gonolek, Violet tipped Courser, and many others. Lunch at the hotel and later in the afternoon drive to Jinja town. Dinner and overnight at Gately on the Nile.

After breakfast, bird at Mabira forest and later visit the water falls. There is also a variety of bird life that we shall see. We shall walk along the trail and look out for birds such as Speckle -breasted woodpecker, Black-throated Apalis, African Blue flycatcher, Dusky Tit, Forest Robin, Little Olive and other superb sunbirds. The trail continues into an open area where large, dead trees provide nesting sites for an abundance of barbets such as Grey-throated, Yellow-spotted, Hairy-breasted, Double-toothed, Great Blue Turaco and Local African Pied Hornbill are also found there.

After morning breakfast, head for your home bound flight. Arriving midday and prepare for your home bound flight. END OF TOUR
